It’s what proves the vehicle’s safe to drive, meaning it has brakes that stop effectively, steering that responds, and lights that work - to name just a few parameters. No certificate, no road use.

When a commercial vehicle goes in for its HCV CVRT, the outcome isn’t always as simple as “pass” or “fail.” Inspectors look for faults, and if they find any, they put them into categories that explain how serious the issues are. Needless to say, understanding what's covered in them is important.

Ireland’s roads are full of commercial vehicles, whether it’s vans making deliveries or buses carrying passengers. Every one of them has to be kept safe and legal, which is where the Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test (CVRT) comes in.
