How to Improve Your CVORI Rating

The Argent Equipment team spends each day providing the very best commercial vehicle testing to our many customers across Dublin. However, when we're not busy offering industry-leading services like these, we create educational blogs like this to help make life easier for commercial vehicle owners and operators.

Today, we look at something known as the Commercial Vehicle Operator Risk Indicator (CVORI), which aims to protect the safety of all motorists on Ireland's roads. More specifically, we examine how you can ensure your CVORI rating is the best it can be.

What Is the CVORI Risk Rating For?
drive a commercial vehicle in Ireland, there's a good chance that you might be inspected by the RSA either by the roadside or at your premises. As such, the RSA uses the CVORI risk rating to determine whether you should be inspected.

You can access your risk rating by registering for an online account on the RSA's website

Only operators submitting a self-declaration via this route can view their risk rating online.

How to Improve Your CVORI Rating

The good news is that you can do much to improve your CVORI rating by doing the simple things correctly. They include:

  • Having a current Certificate of Roadworthiness (CRW) displayed on your vehicle/every vehicle in your fleet

  • Ensuring you/your drivers comply with rules re: driving hours/breaks/rest periods

  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks to keep every vehicle roadworthy

  • Check tachograph equipment and driver cards before every trip

  • Carry out walk-around checks for every trip & document defects and date fixed

  • Keep driver-hour records on driver hours (including digital and analogue records)

  • Make sure your self-declaration is submitted to your RSA CVRT online account

  • Ensure that when required, all vehicles you operate are on your transport licence

  • Utilise voluntary HCV CVRT tests to supplement your annual HCV test

  • Comply with Irish Regulations/EU Rules/Working Time Directive

Keeping Ireland's Roads Safe For Everyone

Following these guidelines reduces the chance of being inspected by the RSA and keeps Ireland's roads safer for everyone who uses them. That's also something we contribute to with the wide range of truck testing, van CVRT, bus testing, ambulance testing and more than we offer at our testing centres in Ballycoolin and on Longmile Road in Dublin.
Whatever your commercial vehicle testing needs are, we've got you covered. You can find out more about this by looking around our website, www.argent.ie.
